Thursdays on First & Third has been canceled for today.

Minneapolis-based rapper Desdamona   was scheduled to perform at 7 p.m.

--

A Minneapolis native, Desdamona is a versatile performer known for her spoken word and hip-hop performances. Her sound flits between the sounds of classic Twin Cities hip-hop, reggae and soul, while her lyrics champion the noble causes of love and positivity.

Her fidelity to the sounds and cadences of the Twin Cities hip-hop scene is on full display in the music video for her 2011 single "The Comeback," a bombastic call-to-arms that finds Desdamona rhyming in a style heavily reminiscent of Brother Ali. "Hopesick," her latest track, was inspired by a piece of graffiti and takes a lighter sonic approach while Desdamona raps on the nature of life and growth.

She does break free from the oftentimes heavy-handed sound of the Twin Cities. Her Reverb Nation page ( www.reverbnation.com/desdamona ) features a pair of remixes by legendary reggae producers Sly & Robbie, and her talents are featured in K-Mart's latest back-to-school advertisement, ( www.youtube.com/watch?v=mR5ehd6B8uU ), where she spits bars about kids apparel while dressed as a lunch lady (she's the one in blue, according to her Twitter feed).
