Bard fest topic of meeting

WINONA — The Great River Shakespeare Festival will host a stakeholders meeting Monday at the Winona County History Center, 160 Johnson St., Winona.

This is the first time the festival has held such a meeting. "The Stakeholders meeting is the equivalent of a for-profit business' annual shareholders meeting," said Eric Bunge, managing director of the festival. He said short- and long-term plans for the festival will be discussed. Anyone interested in the festival, including patrons and volunteers, is invited to attend.

While the 2011 festival had record revenue from ticket sales, those ticket sales cover just 30 percent of the annual $850,000 operating budget, Bunge said. The rest of the funding comes from charitable contributions, grants and individual donations. This meeting is an effort to keep everyone up to date on where the festival stands both financially and artistically, he said.

The meeting opens with a social hour at 4:30 p.m., followed by the program at 5:30 p.m.
