If the voice mail is garbled and it takes three tries to send an e-mail, you can blame it on the stars. We have 10 more days of the Mercury retrograde. Still, all communication is not futile. The Gemini moon is expressive and witty, keying us into the more interesting stories and social interactions available. For the most part, it's still safe to express yourself.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). Staying focused on your own work is often a good idea. But right now you might take a peek at what others are doing. You will be informed, perhaps even enriched, by what you learn while checking out your competition.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). Relationships change -- expand, contract and shape-shift. You influence the scene, but you can't control it. Treat love like it's a living and breathing thing that needs sustenance. Feed your love.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). Just because you've eliminated every false option does not mean you have found the truth. Take a break from trying to understand or improve things. The answer will come when it's good and ready.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). It would be a mistake to theorize on the topic before all the facts have come in. Making assumptions takes too much time and energy, and anyway, what you assume might prove in the end to be completely false.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). Be assertive. Act on the impulse to help. Inaction can cause more harm than willfully taking a negative action. One who sees the opportunity to do good and does not take it has done bad.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). Though you've been trying to think bigger -- successfully on most days -- you still believe deep down that little things are the most important. And you are most certainly right about that.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). Know who you can trust, and keep your business completely away from anyone you cannot trust. On a related note, either tell your friend the whole story, or don't tell your friend anything at all.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). What do you need to be happy? Your requirements have changed through the years, and yet they are essentially not so different from what they were -- loving companionship and a nice bit of work to get into.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). Last month matured you, but thankfully, you still have a few illusions. As your sign mate Mark Twain said, "Don't part with your illusions. When they are gone you may still exist, but you have ceased to live."

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). Advertising is a part of life. You're in the business of selling you. You compose the "ad" as you get dressed in the morning, open your mouth to talk and position yourself to walk up to a person. It's all part of your pitch.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). You walk around with a greater sense of personal responsibility, and because of this, you change environments just by entering them. Complete strangers will notice your influence on a place.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). You are going to make a difference. You don't have an exact plan yet, but the plan is actually a minor detail. Decide that you are here to improve things. Declare it to yourself, and the message will come through in all you do.

TODAY'S BIRTHDAY (September 2). You have learned certain lessons in life and have never forgotten them. You will follow your principles straight to financial success this month. A wayward loved one comes around in November. You'll find a partner in creativity in December. You'll take risks that pay off in January and will polish your public image, too. Leo and Capricorn people adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 6, 2, 50, 12 and 30.

ASTROLOGICAL QUESTIONS: "My parents hardly took any pictures of me when I was little. Now I have a little Scorpio, and I want to photograph her -- she's so pretty! But when I turn the camera on her, she always makes a weird face, contorts her body or runs away. None of my pictures of her look like the little one I know and love. I took her to a professional, and she cried the entire time. I am determined to get a good photo of her. What do I do?"

Scorpios are famously private, and it sounds like your little Scorpio falls right in line with the description of her sign! Your best bet will be candid photos. That means no requests for a pose or a smile and no doing anything to draw attention to the fact that a picture is being taken. You could hire a photographer to hang out with you and snap shots while you play. Make sure the pro is there long enough to blend into the background. Someone who can work outdoors with a telephoto lens (like the paparazzi) would be ideal. By the way, her camera shyness may not completely go away, but she will likely outgrow the extreme camera aversion she has now.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Actor, director and producer Salma Hayek has said that she aims for a lifetime of movies, and her natal chart supports career longevity. Hayek is a Virgo born under a Capricorn moon -- an earth-sign combination that speaks to her sensuality, as well as her business acumen. Mercury, the planet of communication, and love planet Venus are both housed in Libra, the sign of art, balance and relationships.
