Defuze to host new music series at Rookies

Jon Prosch and fellow members of the Rochester band Defuze got tired of scrambling for places to perform their original rock music. So they came up with an original idea: Start their own music series.

"It's something I've been thinking about for a long time," said Prosch. "Rochester does not have a lot of good places for original music. It's all about cover bands."

The new series, to be held the second Saturday of each month at Rookies Sports Grill & Bar in Rochester, will feature Defuze, and bands brought in from the Twin Cities and the region. "It's mainly the rock genre — nothing too heavy," Prosch said.

Saturday's show will feature Minos, Machine 22 and Under None.

The April 10 show will feature Defuze, Xxile, Beautiful Trigger and Tepetricy.

The lineup for May 8 is Defuze, Black Valentyne, Schizopathic and Requaince. Prosch said the first five months have been booked.

"We've done a lot of research on the bands," Prosch said. "A lot of the bands we're bringing in have played with bigger names. They aren't your average garage bands. I've seen video footage of these bands and I believe they'll be quality."

Quality, in fact, was a word mentioned several times by Prosch in describing his hopes for the series. "We want to present a good quality atmosphere," he said.

"Our whole thing is to bring something new to Rochester," Prosch said. "It' a chance to hear original, live music. That's where we're coming from."
