Music of Ireland, Scotland

ZUMBROTA — Music from Scotland and Ireland will be featured in two upcoming concerts at Crossings at Carnegie, 320 East Ave., Zumbrota.

The duo of Alisdair Fraser, regarded as Scotland's premier fiddle ambassador, and cellist Natalie Haas performs at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 10, followed by Brian Miller's Minnesota Lumberjack songs, which have their roots in Ireland, at 7 p.m. Nov. 13.

Fraser and Haas have been featured on the "Performance Today" and "Mountain Stage" radio programs and have represented Scotland at the Smithsonian's Folklife Festival. Tickets are $25 in advance, $27 the day of the show.

Miller will perform songs that that were popular with loggers in Minnesota's north woods. Many of those songs came from Irish music.

Sweet Adelines hold a 'Clinic'

PINE ISLAND — The Zumbro Valley Sweet Adelines will present a concert, "36 Minute Clinic," at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Olde Pine Theatre, 113 Second St. S.W.

Ryan Evans will direct the concert, which will include the songs "Hooked on a Feeling," "Kokomo," "Happy Together" and "Anything Goes." Also performing will be the Singing Teapots.

Admission is $10.

Party Penguins at Oak Center

OAK CENTER — The Pistol Whippin' Party Penguins will perform at 8 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Oak Center General Store , U.S. 63 between Zumbro Falls and Lake City.

The Minneapolis-based band uses banjo, upright bass, mandolin, fiddles and guitars to maintain the original spirit of string band music while adding original songs and updating cover tunes.

Community Band to celebrate classics

Rochester Community Band's fall concert, "Celebrating the Classics," will be held at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 13 at Charles Hill Theatre on the campus of Rochester Community & Technical College.

Selections include "Pageant," "Flourish for Wind Band," the fourth movement of Holst's "The Planets," and "Loch Lomond." Guest performers are Two Teachers & a Mailman.

Admission is free.
