Jay Bakker, son of televangelists Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker, will speak Sunday in Rochester.

The son of Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker makes a stop in Rochester this weekend to talk about grace, forgiveness and reconciliation.

Jay Bakker will speak at 7 p.m. Sunday at Studio 324, at 324 S. Broadway in Rochester, as part of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church's Sandbox Cooperative series. Dave Berg, pastor at Gloria Dei, said he hopes the interactive forum provides a space for meaningful conversation.

"The focus of his talk will be about grace," Berg said. "We live in society that doesn't have a really good understanding about what grace is all about.

"Jay speaks with authority on the importance of grace, forgiveness and reconciliation," Berg said. "He's cutting edge with regard to the conversation we as a society need to be having and exploring."

Bakker lives in Minneapolis, the town in which his well-known parents met while attending North Central University. At their peak, televangelists Jim and Tammy Faye brought in $1 million a week in contributions. In 1989, Jim Bakker was sentenced to 45 years in prison for fraud and conspiracy, and served some of his time in Rochester's Federal Medical Center.

"I look forward to Jay sharing his unique story and teaching us how radical, surprising, and even disturbing grace can be, and how grace is for everyone despite our attempts to limit it," said project leader Chris Roberts.

For those who are interested in Bakker's talk, but can't attend the event, it will be shown online at www.sandboxcooperative.com . Online viewers can submit questions via Facebook and Twitter with the #sandboxcoop hashtag.

Admission is free.
