The five candidates for the next Aspiring Conductor Contest of the Rochester Symphony Orchestra & Chorale will begin their campaigns at the Feb. 18 "Latin Love" concert.
The five candidates are:
• Steve Adamson, of Mayo Clinic's Lake City Medical Center.
• Steve Books, of the Booker-Mini Band.
• Julie Jones, of radio station KMFX.

• Terry Klampe, of Klampe Dental Studio.
• Diane Toogood, a Rochester piano teacher and musician.
They will campaign for "votes" in the form of dollars — each dollar raised for the orchestra by the candidate is counted as a vote in their favor. The candidate who has raised the most money at the March 16 deadline will get to conduct the orchestra at the March 24 concert.
The 2011 Aspiring Conductor contest raised $27,264 for the orchestra. The winning candidate was Anne Judisch, who also plays violin with the orchestra.
Ballots and donations will be collected by the candidates in person, and may also be submitted to the RSOC office at 400 S. Broadway, Suite, 302.
The "Latin Love" concert is at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 18 at Mayo Civic Center's Presentation Hall.
