Doctor to receive award
Dr. Ramond Iezzi, Mayo Clinic associate professor of ophthalmology, is scheduled to receive a Visionary Award from the Foundation Fighting Blindness.
The award ceremony is scheduled for 6 p.m. May 23 at the Marquette Hotel, 710 Marquette Ave., Minneapolis.
The awards dinner is titled Dining in the Dark and is considered a "distinctive sensory awareness experience in which guests participate in an unforgettable dining adventure, in complete darkness."
Diners, according to organizers, "will wear special light-blocking blindfolds and enjoy their entree using only their heightened senses of smell, sound, taste and touch."
Funds raised go toward research for prevention, treatment and cure of degenerative retinal diseases like macular degeneration, retinitis pigmentosa and Usher syndrome.
Tickets are $250 per person, available online . For more information, contact Michele DiVincenzo at MDiVincenzo@FightBlindness.org or call (847) 680-0100.
