Mayo Clinic announced this morning that it will open its electronically available patient-education materials to patients at small clinics nationwide.
The nearly 3,000 best-practices pamphlets and DVDs developed by Mayo "help patients understand medical tests, surgical procedures, diseases and conditions; self-care; preventive health and wellness."
Electronic-health-records companyDrchrono converted the materials into electronic format. Physicians who subscribe to the service will know that the materials are accurate.
With the new service, "physicians have access to the Mayo Clinic content in real time through iPads, iPhones and Web," Mayo reported. "The system pulls a list of relevant documents and the physician can select which material to digitally distribute to the patient. The patient can view the information anytime, anyplace through an iPhone, iPad, Android device or Web."
