Mike was born on Feb. 13, 1920, in Cherry Grove, Minn., to Henry and Martha Hoopman and attended school in Cherry Grove. In December of 1942, he joined the U.S. Army and served three years, two months and 21 days. In 1948 he married Arlene Sikkink. Mike worked at IBM from 1957 until his retirement in 1983.
He and Arlene have three children, David, Richard (deceased) and Sharon; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mike enjoys playing Hearts, solitaire and computer games, and weekly coffee at church on Wednesday afternoons. He is a charter member of Church of the Savior in Rochester, where he is still an active member.
Friends and family know Mike best with a ready smile and hearty chuckle.
