Musicians selected for solos

Kathryn Anderson

Three Rochester musicians have been selected as soloists at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis as part of graduation activities and celebrations of achievement under the Suzuki Association of Minnesota: They are Kathryn Anderson (violin and piano), Jennifer Kim (violin), and Ashley Vincent (piano).

Only four students on each instrument are selected for solo performances.

Katie Anderson is a home-schooled junior and has performed in SEMSA ensembles, the Omnia Musica Quartet, Honors Recitals, and the South Eastern Minnesota Youth Orchestra (currently co-concertmaster). Anderson will be a featured piano soloist at Orchestra Hall on piano as well as violin. She is a volunteer at Mayo Clinic and at her church. She is the daughter of Alfred and Laura Anderson.

Jennifer Kim is a junior at Century High School. She began studying the violin at age 4 under the instruction of Linda Thompson in Rochester. Kim also is selected as a soloist for Austin Symphony Young Artist concert. Her solo is Concerto No. 3 in G-minor, 3rd movement, by Max Bruch at Orchestra Hall. She enjoys poetry, tennis and volunteer work. She is the daughter of Ray and Amy Kim.

Ashley Vincent is a sophomore at Century High School. Vincent will play the "The Lark" by Glinka/Balakirew. Vincent has studied piano with Barbara Bartleson for 11 1/2 years. She also performs with the fall and winter competitive Silver Stars dance teams. She is the daughter of Sharon and Jeff Vincent of Rochester.

The Suzuki Method teaches children to listen and reproduce music by ear just as they learn language. Students of stringed instruments participate in concert at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis; pianists perform at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
