Rustic wit featured in 'Samantha' play at DreamAcres
WYKOFF — "Samantha Rastles the Woman Question," a one-woman show by Jane Curry, is the next Play! in the Barn offering at DreamAcres Farm near Wykoff.
The play is based on the writings of Marietta Holley, a 19th century humorist. Curry portrays Samantha Smith Allen, Holley's fictional rustic philosopher. With plain horse sense and dry wit, Samantha addresses questions concerning the treatment, roles and rights of women through history.
Curry, a Minneapolis-based actor, storyteller and writer, has edited an anthology of Holley's work. Samantha was featured in several of Holley's books between 1873 and 1914, including "Samantha at the World's Fair" and "Samantha Among the Brethren."
The performance is at 8:30 p.m. in the barn at DreamAcres. Admission is $10. Wood-fired pizza is available from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
DreamAcres is located at 17289 Fillmore County Road 8.
