Modern manners were developed from aristocratic origins into a system of courtesy to fit equals. Rule No. 1 is that every public action ought to signal respect to those present. So what is a proper action to take against those who are in violation of rule No. 1? The tolerant Sagittarius moon suggests none at all. To each his own.
ARIES (March 21-April 19). There's good reason to not get passionately wrapped up in a project or relationship now if you can help it. It's when you feel most strongly about a thing that you are most likely to be fooled by it.
TAURUS (April 20-May 20). You will be assessed according to what you've done. Be aware that this probably will not line up with your self-assessment, which is based on what you think you're capable of doing.
GEMINI (May 21-June 21). If you don't think you're suited for the job at hand, you could be right. But you also know this is not a reason to run. Doing the job at hand is for the strong and the versatile. You're definitely both.
CANCER (June 22-July 22). You're so open to the feelings of others now that you could take them on. Sometimes, it's appropriate; other times, it's hazardous to your well-being. Stay emotionally on guard.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). There's a limited window of opportunity on today's fun. If it's going to happen you have to get to work and handle many small obstacles quickly. Sense your way through situations that cannot be reasonably sorted out.
VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). Mystery is beautiful. Consider this in all you do now. Don't explain too much. It robs others of the mystery. Giving away too many answers is also an equal act of theft.
LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). Anyone can lead when the conditions are right. It's the one who can rally the troops through rotten weather and imminent danger that is the true commander.
SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). Is true happiness self-reliance, or is it cooperation? You'll get a taste of both today so you can answer the question quite effectively. Which made you happier?
SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). Keeping score is a dangerous activity that will only lead to a focus on the points you lack. Instead of keeping score, focus relentlessly on your personal goal. In other words, "eyes on your own paper."
CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). Work and play will come together in today's events, and it's an overwhelmingly positive and productive feeling when they do. You are doing what you were always meant to do.
AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). Most arguments that come up this week aren't worth taking on. Sure, you could win them -- probably very easily, too -- and that's part of the reason why you shouldn't bother. There's no glory in such easy victories.
PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). You'll get further along with a project when you ask questions that you sense will be met by answers. For now, you are better off when you seek to know what you think can be reasonably known.

TODAY'S BIRTHDAY (Jan. 26). Take risks with your emotions but play it safe with your physical self. The next six weeks will reveal new talents to explore and the potential for great love. You'll launch a project in February. Don't try to make your own way in March -- get input from people who've already arrived and you'll succeed by the end of April. Cancer and Virgo adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 40, 3, 22, 1 and 13.
FORECAST FOR THE WEEK AHEAD: Most months have one new moon but this January gifts us with two, the second one in Aquarius on Dec. 30. This will be an excellent time to review your New Year's resolutions. If you've already broken them, don't be hard on yourself. It's probably because they weren't quite right to begin with. Try again. Your new rules are more likely to stick under the future-oriented Aquarius new moon. In these final days of Venus's retrograde status through Capricorn, the goddess is like a spy in the house of love. The exciting part about spies is that their work requires them to adopt and master the culture of the group they are inundating while maintaining an entirely separate agenda. Most people have trouble enough trying to say and do the right things that will grant them acceptance within a group without the added challenge of forwarding any other interest, which is why those who can manage a dual purpose are particularly intriguing. Enjoy the mystery this brings to the realm of relationships while it lasts. On Jan. 31, Venus resumes a direct path through power-aware Capricorn, and relationships will suddenly become rather straightforward. What you see is what you get.
CELEBRITY PROFILES: Grammy Award-winning songstress Lucinda Williams is an Aquarius whose musical poetry goes straight for the heart. Williams will bring a new album and sound to the world in 2014. Born under a Cancer moon, the landscape of emotions is what Williams knows best. Venus and Mars in Pisces is an ideal arrangement for sensitive artists.
