Rochester's Schaeffer Academy hosted its Gold Ribbon Gala on March 24, complete with dinner, live and silent auctions and live entertainment provided by students in the jazz band.
The annual event is organized and put on by parent volunteers and students. Each year, students provide musical entertainment and serve as waiters for the dinner.
Before dinner, guests were treated to a variety of fresh fruit and cheeses to snack on as they browsed the auction tables. Event goers were impressed with the array of live and silent auction items up for bid — nearly 100 feet of tables were covered with items.
The Schaeffer Academy Jazz Band, under the direction of Karen Graham, provided the entertainment for the evening, including a unique rendition of a popular Led Zeppelin song.
Schaeffer Academy is an independent, Christian, K-12 school in northeast Rochester. The money raised from this year's gala is used primarily for tuition assistance, but also to buy school equipment, such as computers and technology and science lab equipment.
