Rochester Montessori School will host its own Empty Bowls event to raise money for Channel One Food Bank and Food Shelf.
Potter Travis Prinzing volunteered to help make 90 bowls for the children to personalize and glaze and then sell at the event, which will be at 5 p.m. Thursday in the school's gymnasium, 5099 Seventh St. N.W.
Participants will receive a bowl of soup and take home a pottery bowl for a minimum cash donation of $15.
Empty Bowls is an international grassroots effort to fight hunger and was created by The Imagine Render Group. The basic premise is that guests eat a simple meal of soup and bread and keep a handcrafted bowl as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world. The money raised is donated to an organization working to end hunger and food insecurity.
A group of E2 and middle school students will also volunteer at Channel One.
