Rochester-based Minnesota SkyVault Theatre has won the lottery.
SkyVault was selected in the annual Minnesota Fringe Festival lottery to be one of 169 acts and troupes that will perform during the festival, which runs Aug. 4-14.
There are usually about 500 applicants for slots in festival. Rather than playing favorites, Fringe Festival organizers use a lottery to determine who gets to perform. This year, SkyVault's name was picked.
For the festival, the SkyVault troupe is writing an original adaptation of Shakespeare, "On the Road to Verona," said Kathy Kuhlmann, Words Players/Minnesota SkyVault executive director.
In the show, a group of Shakespeare's traveling companions find a collection of lost Shakespeare prose works, and decide to bring them to the stage. The story unfolds with audience participation, accompanied by original folk and jazz music.
