UMR Connects moves outside tonight

The first outdoor UMR Connects program of the summer is at 7 p.m. today on the Peace Plaza stage.

The Choral Arts Ensemble of Rochester will present a Community Sing, along with musical partners from the recent "Diverse Voices" concert. The choir and audience will learn about and sing musical traditions of the Chinese, Somali, Indian, African-American and Filipino communities.

Admission is free. The UMR Connects programs are organized by the University of Minnesota Rochester.

The theme for June's UMR Connects program is performing arts:

— June 14, Honors Choirs of Southeast Minnesota presents "Fiddler on the Roof."

— June 21, "Perfectly Frank," Todd Anderson presents the music of Frank Sinatra.

— June 28, the art of social dance, presented by the Dahl Dance Center.

All programs are at 7 p.m. on the Peace Plaza stage. In case of inclement weather, the programs move indoors to the fourth floor of University Square.
