What's in Store — Cooking with EVOO, bubbling with excitement
It's all about olive oil lately, with the Mediterranean diet in the news again.
Last week, Mayo Clinic and Stillwater Olive Oil Co. were cited in a CNN Health report about the benefits of extra-virgin olive oil.
"One of the things that's really important to note is the sooner you get it from the press, the better," said Tony Miller, manager of the Stillwater Olive Oil Co. store in the lobby level of Rochester's Kahler Grand Hotel. The store strives to bring in the freshest oils. "It affects the taste and health benefits," Miller said.
Stillwater Olive Oil Co. also will participate in the launch of the Ultra Premium olive oil program. The program was developed to define and distinguish the highest quality olive oil in the world. The UP logo signifies the oil has been certified, lab-tested and sensory evaluated. Stillwater Olive Oil Co. will be one of a select few stores in the country to carry it. The UP oil should arrive in about two months, Miller said.
Also part of Mediterranean diet, but not always in the headlines, is balsamic vinegar.
But note, when it comes to balsamic vinegar, the longer it's aged, the better, Miller said, noting the store has both 12- and 18-year aged vinegars.
Stillwater Olive Oil Co. was not affiliated with Rochester Olive Oil Co., which recently closed at Apache Mall in Rochester.
Fans of Lillians will be bubbling with excitement about the boutique store's latest news.
Lillians of Rochester , 223 N. Broadway, used to be open only four days a month. Now it's open every Thursday through Saturday.
The store is stocked with a rainbow of spring colors available in everything from the latest urban tunics to French braided scarves. And of course they've got bubble necklaces, the statement necklace of the season made of bright colored, round, flat stones set in various geometric patterns.
