Here Comes Santa Claus

Santa Claus mingles with children and their families after his rescue from the roof of Old City Hall by the Rochester Fire Department during the "Here Comes Santa Clause" event Friday, Nov. 23, 2018, in downtown Rochester. St. Niicholas was rescued from the roof of Old City Hall before mingling with children and their families and making his way to Peace Plaza for the "Tree Lighting Ceremony."

Pivot immediately into Christmas with Rochester’s annual downtown celebration -- Here Comes Santa Claus on Friday, Nov. 29. As usual, this year will include children’s activities, a thrilling Santa appearance, and more.

Here’s the Rochester Downtown Alliance’s schedule for the festivities:

4-6 p.m.: Warming House and Santa’s Elves Workshop - at the Castle Community and 311 S Broadway Ave.

When the frigid air is too chilling, head indoors for storytime with Mrs. Claus, cookie decorating, art activities, letter writing to Santa, and a cup of coffee or hot chocolate. Take a trolley ride between locations with the Rochester Trolley and Tour Company.

6:05 p.m.: Daring Santa Rescue - at 224 1st Ave. SW

High atop Old City Hall is the safest landing place for Santa Claus in downtown Rochester and will need help getting down. To the rescue will be the Rochester Fire Department, with an assist from Mayor Kim Norton. Be in the crowd to welcome Santa to the ground.

6:30 p.m.: Tree Lighting - at Peace Plaza

Everything will be all aglow when Santa flips the switch on the Peace Plaza’s giant tree. It will surely be an Instagram-worthy holiday moment!

6:45 p.m.: Photos with Santa - at Shops at University Square

Before he heads back to the North Pole, the jolly old elf will happily greet children who want to sit on his lap and take a photo with him.

Here Comes Santa Claus is presented by the Rochester Downtown Alliance and Altera Federal Credit Union. For more information, go to downtownrochestermn.com.
