Mary R. Smalley - Rochester

Mary R. Smalley, 91, of Rochester, formerly of Wabasha, died peacefully at her home on Thursday, April 21, 2011.

She was born Oct. 4, 1919, in Concord, N.H., the daughter of Antonio and Odell (Varin) Graziano. She moved to Minnesota in 1946. She married Donald Smalley Sept. 14, 1946, in Iowa. She worked as a waitress in Rochester for a short time and then worked at the Rochester Auto License Bureau for 20 years. They retired in 1978 and moved to Florida, where they lived a few years. They moved back to Minnesota and in 1983 moved to Wabasha.

Mary was a member of St. Felix Catholic Church in Wabasha and a member of its Council of Catholic Women. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, playing cards, and in her younger years she was an avid bowler, winning many awards.

She is survived by two grandsons and their spouses, Michael and Nancy Smalley, Rochester, and Donald and Elsie Smalley of the Philippines; six great-grandchildren; brother, Frank Graziano, El Cajon, Calif.; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, who died in 1990; and her son, George, who died in 1983.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at 11 a.m. at St. Felix Catholic Church, with the Reverend Glenn Frerichs officiating. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery in Wabasha. Family and friends may call at the church on Wednesday one hour before the service. There will be no reviewal.
