New car wash to clean up in Northeast Rochester
In the spring, Rochester commuters will have a new spot to shine up their ride.
On the corner of 37th Street Northeast and East River Road, a new 5,100-square-foot Tommy's Express Car Washis under construction.
Once completed, it will stand at 265 Penny Lane NE. The car wash is being built on open land between a Think Mutual Bankbranch and Rochester Gymnastics Academy . That's the spot many will remember as where J & J Producepreviously set up to sell produce during the warmer months.
It appears the car wash will probably be ready for operation in early spring.
While there are 45 Tommy's Express Car Washes in 18 states, this will be only the second in Minnesota. The other one is located in New Hope.
The automated car wash is being developed under the name of PWS Holdings 19 IA, LLC, which is an arm of the Fargo, ND.-based Paces Lodging Corp. The car wash will be owned by Property Resources Group, which is related to Paces.
Building permits estimate the value of the car wash at $2.8 million.
The salon, which opened 2009, is next to Cafe Steam's Doubletree location.
Owner Shelly Josephannounced the closing simply on Facebook on Nov. 1 by posting, "Yes its true! WE HAVE CLOSED. Very simply, we lost our lease. All of the stylists have either been hired, or are interviewing and will be settled in to a new salon soon. ... I want to thank ALL of the thousands of clients over the past 10+ years for your support of my business. I have met so many wonderful people, locally and from all over the world, and have become friends with many of them."
Joseph had nine stylists working at the salon.
It's unknown what's next for that prominent retail spot along the skyway. It previously housed part of McCormick’s Bar and Grillfollowed by a four-year run by the chrome-encrusted Metro Bar and Grill .
