Rochester police are looking for help in locating a dog that bit a woman who was walking near Silver Lake on Monday morning.

Police Sgt. Rob Miller said the woman’s doctor has recommended finding the dog and the owner as soon as possible to avoid the need to start rabies shots.

Miller said the incident occurred at about 11 a.m. Monday on the east side of Silver Lake, near the pavilion.

A woman said she was walking and was bit by a young German shepherd with floppy ears. She said the dog was being walked by a heavyset man in his 40s, about 5-foot-11, wearing glasses, a green shirt and charcoal-colored pants. She said the man said that he doesn’t own the dog, and that he left when she went to get a pen and paper.

Anyone with information is asked to call Rochester Animal Control at 328-6960, Monday through Friday before 5 p.m. Otherwise, call the law-enforcement dispatch center at 328-6800.
