• James W. Pederson, of Plainview, was recently appointed to the ServeMinnesota Commission by governor Tim Pawlenty. Pederson is retired after working for 25 years as a nursing home administrator. He serves on the Plainview City Council and chairs the board for Action Volunteers of Wabasha County, among other positions.

• Paul McCartan, of Rochester, recently won the Minnesota State Auctioneer Bid Calling Championship. Judd Grafe of Rochester, placed second. The competition was held at the Minnesota State Auctioneers Association Conference Jan. 22-24 in Mankato.
