Got questions? Get answers at next week’s Occupational Skills Program Information Session. RCTC’s nine-week Occupational Skills Program is available to students who have mild to moderate disabilities and who have a high school diploma or GED. Students receive classroom instruction and on-site vocational training with the end goal of obtaining competitive entry-level employment.

Free. Registration is suggested. Additional information sessions planned for Thursday, March 12 and Monday, April 20.

Sowing Seeds

Seeds of Early Learning offers training for parents (grandparents, or other invested adults) of kids, birth through age 5. Sponsored by First Steps (a program of the Rochester Area Foundation), the four-week training offers information, techniques and strategies to encourage language development, support your child’s positive self image and to get the most out of reading with your kids.

Call or e-mail to register. Cost is $25 and includes lunch and child care. Scholarships available.

Every kid knows what happens if you give a pig a pancake (pancakes lead to syrup, syrup leads to baths, baths lead to bubbles ...). If you’re up for a short road trip, you can find out what happens on-stage at TheatreworksUSA’s performance of "If you Give a Pig a Pancake." The one-hour production is geared to families with kids in kindergarten through fourth grade and will also include family favorites like "Diary of a Worm," "How I Became a Pirate" and "The Paper Bag Princess."

Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students. Call or order online.

Something to smile about

They’ll be polishing up the kids’ pearly whites at this week’s Give Kids a Smile event. Held at the Salvation Army’s Good Samaritan Dental clinic, in conjunction with the Minnesota Dental Association, the clinic provides free dental work (preventative, restorative, extractions) to local kids ages 3 to 17. Preregistration required. Call to see if your family qualifies and for appointment availability.

The Good Samaritan Dental Clinic provides year-round, low-cost dental care to families in need. Call for appointment and eligibility information.
