Art show features local works

STEWARTVILLE — The Rural Scene Art Show runs through April 11 at First Farmers State Bank in Stewartville.

The show features the works of area artists Sharon Brodhun, Jennifer Cachiaras, Donna Cortese, Gayle Dahl, Jim Elton, Tom Johnson, Charles Pearson and Tammy Schneider.

The show can be viewed during normal bank business hours, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

Visitors may register for a drawing of eight prints donated by the artists.

Audubon Society offers bird hike

Members of the Zumbro Valley Audubon Society will offer a bird hike at 9 a.m. Saturday at Quarry Hill Nature Center in Rochester.

Birds expected to be viewed on the hike include downy and hairy woodpeckers, chickadees and white breasted nuthatches.

Binoculars are available at the nature center.

The event is free and open to the public.

Quarry Hill Nature Center is at 701 Silver Creek Road N.E. in Rochester.

Local soprano to present concert

HARMONY — Soprano Mara Winston will be presenting a recital of opera arias and classical art songs at 2 p.m. April 12 at Greenfield Lutheran Church in Harmony.

The performance will feature the works of Mozart, Wolf Schubert, Debussy, Puccini and Bernstien. The accompanist will be pianist Alexander Las.

Winston completed her bachelor of music degree at the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University, where she studied with Metropolitan Opera tenor Michael Best.

Las attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, where he studied piano with Drs. Xiao Hu and Du Huang. He also collaborated with vocalists and instrumentalists in recitals and community engagements, and served as a pianist for vocal seminars and master classes.

There is no charge for admission, and a freewill offering will be taken at the door. A reception will follow the recital.
