Community winter outerwear initiative: More than 3,000 Olmsted County residents need a winter coat, and volunteers are needed to help sort winter outerwear and distribute it the week of Oct. 22. Volunteers are also needed for the Fill-the-Truck event Oct. 19-20. Volunteer receptionist: Channel One Food Bank and Food Shelf needs volunteers to act as the primary public contact at the front desk. Duties include answering phones, helping with paperwork, preparing mailings, running photocopies and other office work. Volunteers should be willing to work at least one four-hour shift each week. Thrift store workers: Volunteers needed to work in the Salvation Army’s thrift store. Duties include sorting donations, hanging and folding clothes, straightening shelves and arranging merchandise. Call 288-3363 for more information or to volunteer.


Classroom assistant for blind ESOL student: The volunteer will help staff as the student learns the alphabet, masters a math skill, learns English, earns a GED, obtains citizenship or reads a book. Call 287-1986 for more information or to volunteer with Adult and Family Literacy.
