Whole-grain cereal has benefits

Men who eat whole-grain cereal at least seven times each week are 28 percent less likely to develop heart failure than other men, says Health Notes, a newsletter for Olmsted Medical Center patients. Eating whole-grain cereal two to six times each week decreased risk by 22 percent.

To find whole-grain cereals for your breakfasts, check the ingredients list, the newsletter says. Look for the word "whole" in terms like "whole grain flour" as the first ingredient on the list, because terms like "multi-grain" or "100% wheat" don’t necessarily mean the product contains whole grain.

Heloise says

With the recent postal-stamp increase, a reader needed to buy some 2-cent stamps to put with the 39-cent stamp when mailing an envelope. So now, she staples the two sheets of these different denominations, so she can find them when she needs them. For more hints from Heloise, go to Page XX.
