Gary Mittelsteadt plants about an acre of pumpkin seeds with his John Deere 7000 four-row planter each spring. In the fall, he harvests some to sell at a family pumpkin stand and at an on-farm store. Schoolchildren also pick-their-own pumpkins and gourds from the field.
