A northeast Austin was heavily damaged by fire Monday night.
Harold Reed, 69, reported the fire about 10:10 p.m. at his home at 408 14th Ave. N.E., Police Chief Paul Philipp said.
Officers reported that flames could be seen inside the house through the front picture window of the residence, which is on the west side of the Hormel Foods plant.

Reed told police that once he saw flames and smoke, he got his dog and left the residence, and backed his truck out of the driveway. He also evacuated the residence next door.
Reed, who had to stay at an Austin hotel because of the fire, told Philipp that some lights weren’t working in his home and that he had changed fuses in the basement several times, but they kept blowing out.
Fire officials will investigate the cause of the blaze.
