Paul McCartney disclosed that some newly recorded songs by the surviving Beatles would be released later this year in an album entitled, "The Beatles Anthology." (The album was released Nov. 20, 1995)
Faribault boys basketball star Mitch Ohnstad scored his 2,000th point in the Falcons’ 70-56 victory over Owatonna in high school basketball play. Ohnstad is the 16th boys player to reach 2,000 points.
1970 – 50 years ago
Mrs. Neal Hofstead is the new president of the Rochester chapter of the Wa-Tan-Ye service club. The group’s main service project is to entertain patients at the Rochester State Hospital.

The Rochester John Marshall music department will present its winter concert in the school auditorium. Performing will be the Girls Chorus, the Concert Choir, the Chamber Singers and the Concert Orchestra.
1945 – 75 years ago
The new clinical administrator at the U.S. naval hospital in Charleston, S.C., is Capt. Charles H. Watkins. Dr. Watkins was formerly a consulting physician at the Mayo Clinic. His daughter, Judith Watkins, resides in Rochester.
Lt. Helen Eilola will discuss her experiences as an Army nurse during the Tunisian and Sicilian campaigns with Lourdes and Rochester high school girls. After her presentation she will answers questions regarding joining the Army nursing corps.
1920 – 100 years ago
The Rochester South American party has arrived in New York. Dr. William J. Mayo of Rochester, president of the American College of Surgery, arrived home on the steamship Estro. Dr. Mayo visited colleges in Peru, Chile, Argentine and Uruguay to determine their eligibility for admittance into the American College of Surgeons.
Willis Fryer of Mantorville, who writes on a regular basis in the Flower Grower, has reported that despite the hard winter, the cardinals have remained all through it. The beautiful bird has been spotted time and again during the cold days of the past three months.
