Meth lab dump site found
Olmsted County Sheriff officials were alerted to a methamphetamine lab dump site Tuesday by a citizen who reported something suspicious in a ditch in the 500 block of 50th Avenue Northeast.
Deputy Scott Behrns said items used to manufacture methamphetamine, including a 40- to 50-pound tank filled with anhydrous ammonia, were found.
The Rochester Police Department’s narcotics squad, which has protective gear for responding to such scenes, and the Rochester Fire Department responded shortly before 1:30 p.m., Behrns said.
Lock your garage and car
The Rochester Police Department has this advice for residents today: Lock your garage and lock your vehicle, even if it’s inside the garage.
Three residential burglaries have happened recently.
• On Monday night, someone went into the unlocked side door of a garage in the 1100 block of Glendale Hills Northeast and took two electric scooters. The burglar or burglars also entered the unlocked home and took a purse and a computer. Total value of the loss was $2,400.
• On the same night in the 2100 block of Rocky Creek Drive Northeast, a burglar entered a garage, with no sign of forced entry, and took an iPod and credit cards from the unlocked car inside.
• On Saturday, a purse was taken from another Rochester garage that was not locked.
Drugs found in traffic stop
The Rochester Police Department got a surprise during the traffic stop of an 18-year-old man.
A strong smell of marijuana led officers to search the vehicle. They found a number of plastic bags containing marijuana in the central console and under the passenger seat. In total, 198 grams of marijuana and $1,300 in cash were recovered.
The driver now faces felony drug charges in addition to a misdemeanor going-through-a-red light charge.
