1958 — 50 years ago

About 25 Rochester residents will attend the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Jefferson Day dinner at the Nicollet Hotel in Minneapolis. Principal speaker is U.S. Sen. John F. Kennedy.

The community of Fountain’s population swelled from 312 to several thousand as visitors swarmed into town to see the Minnesota Centennial Train make a stop. The train will be in Austin today and is scheduled for a three-day stop in Rochester in May.

1933 — 75 years ago

Rochester’s busiest women’s store, Stevenson’s, will have an anniversary sale. More than 300 dresses are 59 cents each. Sizes in stock are 14 to 44.

1908 — 100 years ago

A chicken supper will be served at the Ideal Restaurant after the Antelope dance.

Work has commenced for the library building to be erected near the Mayo offices. The brick building will be constructed under the direction of David Elliott. It is for the use of the Mayo and Graham staff.
