1990: Spruce Up is formed as a committee of the Austin Area Chamber of Commerce. The group plants six Red Maples at Wescott field near the south side of the tennis courts.

1991: For Hormel Foods Corp.’s 100th anniversary, 137 trees were planted along Hormel Century Parkway.

1998: The committee becomes a separate non-profit organization. A major wind storm falls 1,000 trees throughout the city. Hormel Foods Corp. pledges to donate $75,000 to Spruce Up Austin in $25,000 increments over three years, the largest single donation ever to the organization. The funds are used to plant to additional trees.

2000: A ‘millennium maple’ is planted at Jan. 1 at midnight near Mill Pond.

2006: Spruce Up plants 150 trees in various parts of Austin in celebration of the city’s 150th anniversary.
