3 sign national letters of intent to play for Gophers

Associated Press

MINNEAPOLIS — Tubby Smith’s second recruiting class at Minnesota definitely has a local flavor.

The Gophers announced the signing of three recruits on Wednesday to national letters of intent. Two of them are from Minnesota.

Hopkins forward Royce White and Robbinsdale Cooper swingman Rodney Williams will play for the Gophers next year, as will California point guard Justin Cobbs.

White is the centerpiece of the class. He transferred to Hopkins after he was dismissed from DeLaSalle for academic reasons and is considered one of the top players in the country.

The class also includes former Henry Sibley star Trevor Mbakwe (m-BOCK’-way), who transferred from Marquette.

Smith says "this group has a lot of local flavor which stimulates a lot of excitement for our local fan base."
