3rd Ave. reopening eases congestion

From staff reports

In a summer that's come to be known for extreme traffic congestion, there is some relief. Rochester's Third Avenue Southeast re-opened late Wednesday.

"I think there are a lot of people who have been looking forward to it," said David Kramer, city traffic engineer.

Construction on Third Avenue, between Ninth and 12th streets, began in April, marking the second straight construction season the street has been under repair. It is one of Rochester's most important north-south thoroughfares.

Last year, the street was closed for construction between Fourth and Ninth streets.

Third Avenue construction, combined with construction on 16th Street Southwest and U.S. 52, has contributed to periodic gridlock on South Broadway.

That should ease somewhat now, Kramer said.
