The 1972 Dolphins uncork champagne every year when the last unbeaten team finally loses -- in a few cases literally, but mostly figuratively -- and no apologizing is necessary despite some national media contention that the guys are "angry old men" and that toasting another team's misfortune is unbecoming.
That's baloney, of course. The celebrating is earned.
And a lot of us who remember when the Dolphins were the only professional team in town may appreciate the distinction most of all.
See, after all of these years, the perfect 1972 Dolphins are what is uniquely distinct about South Florida sports.
Well, maybe the other thing is how Marlins owners keep having fire sales and breaking up successful teams.
