AUSTIN -- The funeral for A. Daniel Miller will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Austin, with the Rev. Glenn L. Monson officiating. A graveside service will be at 3:30 p.m. in Lansing Cemetery with military graveside rites by Austin American Legion Post 91.
Mr. Miller, 79, of Austin, a retired fire chief, died Sunday (Aug. 25, 2002) at his home.
Born July 21, 1923, in rural Austin, he graduated from Austin High School, served in the Army during World War II and received the Bronze Star and Oak Leaf Cluster. He was a fireman for the city of Austin for 23 years and then served as fire chief until his retirement in 1993. On Aug. 25, 1951, he married Joyce E. Thorpe in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was a member of the Noon Kiwanis Club and Elks Club and enjoyed reading, bicycling and crossword puzzles.
Survivors include two sons, Dana D. (Sue) of Austin and Daren C. of Minneapolis; a daughter, Tamara T. Christopherson of Albert Lea; four grandchildren; and two sisters, Kathryn LaDue of Rochester and Janet Miller of Minneapolis. He was preceded in death by his wife, two brothers and a sister.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary in Austin and an hour before the service Wednesday at the church.
