Agnes S. Tufte — Stewartville

STEWARTVILLE — The funeral for Agnes S. Tufte will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville, with the Rev. Darby Lawrence officiating. Burial will be in West St. Olaf Lutheran Cemetery in the spring.

Mrs. Tufte, 104, of Stewartville, died of natural causes Friday (March 7, 2008) at the Stewartville Care Center. She had been a resident of the care center since 1997.

Agnes S. Thompson was born March 23, 1903, in High Forest Township, Olmsted County. She grew up on the family farm in High Forest and attended rural school. Her mother died when she was 4, and she lived with her father until her marriage to Henry Tufte on May 29, 1929, at East St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Rock Dell. The couple farmed in rural Hayfield until retiring. In the early 1960s, they moved to Stewartville. Following her husband’s death in 1966, Mrs. Tufte remained in their home until moving to the Stewartville Care Center. A longtime member of West St. Olaf Lutheran Church in rural Hayfield, she enjoyed knitting and made many afghans for family and friends.

There are no immediate survivors. She was preceded in death by her husband on May 26, 1966, five brothers and two sisters.

Friends may call an hour before the service at Griffin-Gray Funeral Home.
