ROCHESTER — The Austin boys golf team finished ahead of three other Big Nine Conference schools at Oak Summit on Wednesday, making it a good trip to Rochester for the team.
The Packers finished third at the Rochester Mayo Invitational. Rochester Lourdes won the eight-team event, with Rochester Century taking second.
All of the top three rounds for the Packers were the same score. Drew Osier, James Thorson, and Nick Tabor all shot rounds of 81.
This led to a team total of 329 for the Packers. They finished ahead of Mayo, Winona, and Rochester John Marshall among the five behind them.

"I’m satisfied with our showing, although the guys struggled with their short game," Austin coach Will Pazurek said. "The guys have come a long way in our four meets this season, and we beat a few conference schools, so it was a good day on the course."
Garrett Erstad was the fourth score used by the Packers. He faltered a bit on the back nine, but overall kept the Packers consistent as all four guys shot in he 80s.
Osier and Tabor shot identical rounds of 42 on the front nine and then they had a three-stroke improvement on the back nine. The meet medalist was Dan Johnson of Lourdes with a round of 74.
"The course was dry and it was windy, which made the greens run fast," Pazurek said. "We’re not used to the greens being so quick, and our putting was an issue. Our whole short game was a little off, but the guys kept plugging away and had a good finish."
Austin plays in the Hayfield Invitational on Friday at the Oaks Country Club. This is a make-up meet from last week.
