Rochester Lourdes’ Alexa Palen made it official last week, signing a National Letter of Intent on Nov. 12 to play women’s tennis at the University of Minnesota.
Palen is the two-time defending state Class A champion. The senior is also ranked 58th in the country for her age group.
"We are extremely excited that Alexa chose to attend Minnesota," Gophers coach Tyler Thomson said. "She is an excellent athlete with a very versatile game, and she will strengthen our team immediately. We’re very eager for her career as a Gopher to begin."
Palen will become the fourth member of her family to play college tennis. Alyssa is a current player at Iowa State; Jill is a former player there; and Lindsey played at Division III Gustavus Adolphus, where she won a national doubles title.

The Gophers finished 15-11 last spring.
