WINONA -- The funeral for Alice Marie Meyer will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wilson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Meyer, 96, of Winona, a homemaker and former teacher, died Saturday (Aug. 24, 2002) at Lake Manor Nursing Home in Winona.
Alice Marie Lanz was born Aug. 26, 1905, near Ridgeway, attended Golish District 83 country school and graduated from La Crosse Central High School. She received her teaching certification from Winona Normal School, taught in six Winona County one-room schools from 1923 to 1934 and then worked with the government corn hog program in Lewiston until 1936. On June 10, 1936, she married Henry F. "Hank" Meyer at Wilson Trinity Lutheran Church. After her husband's death on Sept. 13, 1985, she continued to live on the family farm until moving to Alterra Sterling House in Winona in July 1999. Mrs. Meyer was a former member of Grace Lutheran Church in Ridgeway and had been a member of Wilson Trinity Lutheran Church since 1934. She taught Sunday school, was a 4-H adult leader, and was a member and officer of ladies aid, Women's Missionary League, Sunshine Club and Homemakers. She enjoyed growing flowers.
Survivors include four children, David (Marie Karasch) and Eugene (Sheri Lundgren), both of Wilson, Ardell Doering of Wykoff and CarolLynn (Lyle) Ziemann of Chesterfield, Mo.; and 12 grandchildren. Two sisters and a brother preceded her in death.
Friends may call from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at Martin-Myhre Funeral Home in Winona and an hour before the service Tuesday at the church.
