MINNETONKA, Minn. -- Two men from New York hooked a chain up to a sport utility vehicle and yanked the night deposit box off a wall at a bank here only to get lost during the getaway, Minnetonka police said.
"These were not smart guys," said Minnetonka Police Chief Joy Rikala. She said the men also tried to get rid of the evidence during police pursuit by tossing money out of the vehicle's window.
Police said the two men hit the bank after 11 p.m. Sunday, using a rented vehicle. After ripping out the deposit box, they emptied out an unspecified amount of cash and drove away.
The men were caught after a brief chase that ended when the robbers missed a freeway entrance ramp and got lost in Wayzata, she said.
