Alma Lynn Steien -- Stewartville

STEWARTVILLE -- The funeral for Alma Lynn Steien will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church in Stewartville, with the Rev. Ron Allen officiating. Burial will be in Piper Valley Cemetery in rural Fountain City, Wis., at a later date.

Mrs. Steien, 62, of 1807 First Ave. N.E., Stewartville, a retired Rochester Central Lutheran School employee, died of complications of cancer Tuesday (Sept. 2, 2003) at Seasons Hospice in Rochester, where she had resided the past week.

Alma Lynn Multhaup was born April 10, 1941, at her parents home near Fountain City, grew up there, attended rural schools and graduated from Fountain City High School in 1958. She attended Humboldt Airline Institute in Minneapolis and worked for Northwest Airlines from 1958 to 1969. On May 29, 1965, she married John Steien in Winona. They lived in Minneapolis until 1971 and then in Rochester until moving to Stewartville in 1997. They owned and operated Steien's Standard service station in Rochester. Mrs. Steien was a paraprofessional at Rochester Central Lutheran School for 18 years before her retirement in 2002. While in Rochester, she was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and later Trinity Lutheran Church, and had been a member of Zion Lutheran Church since moving to Stewartville. She taught the Stephan Ministry Program at Trinity and Zion Lutheran churches. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and traveling.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Marly (Jeff) Perschbacher of Sterling, Alaska; a son, Mike (Sylvia) of Fountain; a grandson; a sister, Marlene (Jake) Jacobson of Rochester; and two brothers, Wendell (Mae) Multhaup of Hayfield and Darrell Multhaup of Fountain City.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville and an hour before the service Friday at the church.
