Alma M. Zempel -- Rochester

ROCHESTER -- Graveside services for Alma M. Zempel will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Oakwood Cemetery in Rochester. There was a private family service Tuesday at Overton-Van Steenhuyse Funeral Home in Vinton, with the Rev. Mark C. Urlaub officiating.

Mrs. Zempel, 96, of Vinton, Iowa, a longtime Rochester resident, died Saturday (Dec. 21, 2002) at Western Home in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Alma Aaby was born May 3, 1906, in Dodge County. She married Edward W. Zempel on Dec. 24, 1926, in Olmsted County. He died Feb. 26, 1962. She was employed by Mayo Clinic for 28 years, retiring in 1971. She was a member of Zumbro Lutheran Church in Rochester.

Survivors include a daughter, Loraine (Lloyd) Stewart-Spratte of Vinton; a granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by three brothers.

The family prefers memorials to Zumbro Lutheran Church.
