ST. ANSGAR, Iowa -- The funeral for Almo Milfred Jahr will be 1 p.m. Friday at Faith Lutheran Church in London, Minn., with the Rev. Reuben Unseth officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Mona, Iowa.
Mr. Jahr, 73, of Toeterville, Iowa, a retired farmer, died Sunday (March 31, 2002) in Mesa, Ariz.
He was born March 17, 1929, in Otranto Township, Mitchell County, Iowa, and was a 1947 graduate of St. Ansgar High School, where he was recognized as an FFA Star Farmer. On Aug. 22, 1953, he married Lillian Ardine Johnson at Mona Lutheran Church. Mr. Jahr farmed north of St. Ansgar until retiring from farming in 1992 and for the past 25 years, operated the Bolan Store in Bolan, Iowa. He and his wife moved to Toeterville last fall. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in London, a former member of Mona Lutheran Church, a past president of the Otranto Farm Bureau, and served on the Mitchell County FmHA Board, Toeterville Elevator Board, Otranto School Board, and on several boards and committees at Mona Lutheran Church and Faith Lutheran Church. He enjoyed singing, traveling and camping.
Survivors include his wife; five daughters, Liana (Dean) Church and Paula (Dana) Milbrandt, both of Osage, Iowa, Marilyn (Keith) Pitzen of Stacyville, Iowa, and Nancy (Dallas) Huddleson and Julie (Elton) Butler, both of St. Ansgar; two sons, John (Diane) and Peter (Beth), both of St. Ansgar; 20 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and two sisters, Marlys (Loyal) Moore of Harlan, Iowa, and Eileen (Marly) Kittleson of St. Ansgar. Two grandchildren preceded him in death.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage and an hour before the service Friday at the church. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
