Alvena 'Vena' Heins -- Eyota

EYOTA -- The funeral for Alvena "Vena" Heins will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Eyota, with the Rev. Glen Holland officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Heins, 97, of Plainview, formerly of Eyota, died Monday (March 24, 2003) at Hillcrest Community Care Center in Plainview, where she had lived three years.

Alvena Meyers was born Feb. 22, 1906, in Olmsted County, grew up in the Oronoco area and attended a country school. On Sept. 24, 1925, she married Robert Heins in Pine Island. They farmed in Olmsted County and after moving to Eyota in 1959, Mr. Heins was a self-employed carpenter. He died in 1982. She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ and its women's guild, a charter member of the Olmsted Community Hospital Auxiliary, and a member of the Eyota American Legion Auxiliary, Lady Bug home extension group and Eyota Senior Citizens. She had been named an Outstanding Olmsted County Senior Citizen and had been a 4-H leader.

Survivors include two sons, Russell (Bernice) and Joseph (Patricia), both of Eyota; a daughter, Katherine Fick of Zumbro Falls; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Two sisters and three brothers preceded her in death.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Schad &; Zabel Funeral Home in Eyota and an hour before the service Friday at the church.
