Alvina Bertha Schmeling -- Hayfield

HAYFIELD -- The funeral for Alvina Bertha Schmeling will be 1 p.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hayfield with the Rev. Stephan Sandness officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Hayfield.

Mrs. Schmeling, 95, of Hayfield, died Friday morning (June 7, 2002) at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester.

Alvina Bertha Kording was born May 27, 1907, in Dodge County and was a lifelong resident of the Hayfield area. She attended teacher's training at Dodge Center Normal School and taught in District 76. On June 21, 1930, she married Arthur Schmeling in rural Hayfield. The couple farmed and Mrs. Schmeling was a homemaker. Mr. Schmeling died in 1978. Mrs. Schmeling was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was active in the Women's Circle, was a volunteer at Field Crest Care Center, and loved gardening, sewing, rug making and quilting.

Survivors include three daughters, Carolyn McDonald of Rochester, Arlene Draeger of Mantorville, and Arlys (Ronald) Filley of Waltham; one son, Lynn (Brenda Hulsizer) of Blooming Prairie; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. One son, two brothers and six sisters preceded her in death.

Friends may call from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Czaplewski Family Funeral Home in Hayfield and at the church one hour before the service on Monday.


Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church.
