Austin Medical Center will commemorate the Great American Smokeout with a Tobacco Cessation Clinic open house next week.
The open house, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 20, will feature free carbon monoxide screening, refreshments, door prizes and information on the Tobacco Cessation Clinic.
The clinic is staffed by physicians, counselors and pharmacists experienced in treating tobacco addiction. Patients may be referred to the program by a physician or they can sign up themselves.
The Great American Smokeout is held every year on the third Thursday of November to help smokers quit cigarettes for one day, in hopes that they will quit forever. More people quit smoking on this day than any other day of the year.
