Arba B. Holm -- Plainview

PLAINVIEW -- The funeral for Arba B. Holm will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Hoff Funeral Home-St. Charles Chapel, with the Rev. Gerald Melby officiating. Burial will be in Saratoga Cemetery, rural St. Charles.

Mr. Holm, 94, of Hillcrest Care Center in Plainview, died Friday (March 28, 2003) at the care center.

Born June 29, 1908, in St. Charles Township, Winona County, he was a 1926 graduate of St. Charles High School. He lived near St. Charles most of his life. He married Esther Green on Dec. 1, 1930, in Winona. The couple bred Polled Shorthorn cattle for more than 60 years. She died March 30, 1993. Mr. Holm was president and a director of the Minnesota Polled Shorthorn Association during his career. He and his wife, who were members of the American Shorthorn Association, also spent four years managing Shorthorn herds in Georgia, Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky. He sold seed corn as another business venture. Mr. Holm also was a past chairman of the Saratoga school district and was a leader for the Saratoga Challengers 4-H Club. Mr. Holm also was a township assessor for 15 years.

Survivors include four sons, Keith of Riceville, Iowa, Roland (Edith) of St. Charles, Gary (Julia-Ann) of Winona and Steven (DeAnn) of St. Charles; a daughter, Kathleen (Gerald) Walters of Plainview; 22 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth of Utica; and a sister, Opal Newell of Stillwater. He was preceded in death by his wife, three grandchildren and a sister.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday and one hour before the service Monday at the funeral home.
