Two towns positioned on opposite ends of Minnesota Highway 56 in Mower County are planning on having some fun this weekend.
Brownsdale and LeRoy are each hosting their annual summer festivals starting today.
Brownsdale

To the north of Interstate 90 on Highway 56, Brownsdale is starting its two-day fest with a car show at 6 p.m., along with a beer garden and snack bar running until 1 a.m. Most activities, including a silent auction starting at the same time, will be at the Brownsdale Fire Department.
A karaoke contest will run from 8 a.m. to 1 a.m. at the fire hall.
On Saturday, a giant slide and obstacle course will be featured from noon to 6 p.m. east of the fire hall. A beer garden and snack bar will run from noon to midnight.
Children’s carnival games will be from noon to 3 p.m.
A bean-bag toss tournament will begin at 12:30 p.m., with registration at noon.
Other events Saturday include a kids peddle pull at 1 p.m.; DJ show from 1:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.; kids water wars at 2 p.m.; fiddlers in the firehall at 3 p.m.; Austin vocalist Taylor Bliese; and a hog roast from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Circuit Breakers will perform live music from 8 p.m. to midnight.
LeRoy

Festivities today in LeRoy will include a barbecue pork sandwich dinner from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the high school along with a 6 p.m. tournament for bean-bag tossers at North Baumbach Park. Signup starts at 5 p.m.
At 7:30 p.m. a variety show by the LeRoy Community Theater will be at the high school gym.
A dairy malt wagon sponsored by the LeRoy-Ostrander FFA alumni, will be operating all weekend near LeRoy Lumber.
On Saturday, numerous activities will be featured from 8:30 a.m. until after midnight, starting with a mini triathlon and ending with a street dance by Smokin’ Coyotes from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
Other events Saturday will include a co-ed volleyball tournament; a car and motorcycle show at 11 a.m.; a kiddy tractor pull from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. for ages 4 to 11; carnival games and races; firemen’s water fights at 1:30 p.m.; and Southern gospel music at 7 p.m. by the Headin’ Home Quartet at Grace Christian Church.
On Sunday, an ecumenical church service will be offered at 10 a.m. at LeRoy South Park, followed by a grilled chicken dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
A grand parade will follow at 2 p.m.
The LeRoy-Ostrander Community Band will give a free concert. There also will be free watermelon and kiddy train rides.
